Ah, Sedona at sunrise. Magical skies and glowing rocks. I had the opportunity to travel to Sedona for a week recently and got a few really nice images from the trip. The first, “Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte”, is a massive panoramic image created from 18 images shot with a Nikon D800 and a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens.
The skies on this morning were threatening to block out the sunrise, but they just started to open in the east as the sun was beginning to rise. While the clouds prevented any direct light from shining on the rock formations, the sky did light up nicely.
The detail in this image is significant. You can count individual needles in the pine tree to the right all the way to counting trees and bushes on the top of the mesa behind Courthouse Butte.
I purposely composed this image to create a panorama in the classic 6×17 format which has long been used for landscape photography.
