Early Morning Grandeur

Early Morning Grandeur

A Great Blue Heron poses serenely by the waters of the James River

Mornings at the James River offer a near-infinite range of photographic opportunities. As the level of the river rises and falls based on how much or how little rainfall we receive different scenes present themselves. Here, a rock that is easily submerged with just a little rise in water level serves as a platform for a Heron near some rapids. A conveniently-placed tree serves to frame the image at the right and the whole scene is softly lit by the early-morning sun.
